This course on Security for Costs consists of three Lessons:

In the first Lesson you will learn:
the meaning, components, and nature of security for costs
the qualifying factors considered in issuing orders for security for costs
the inherent powers of the court
In the second Lesson you will learn:
the procedures and practice in security for costs applications
the necessity of writing a letter to the plaintiff prior to application
the facts needed to substantiate an application for security for costs
In the third Lesson you will learn:
what grounds are used in defending applications for security for costs
how to respond to applications for security for costs
the prospects of success and court processes in framing orders for security for costs

David M. Quick QC
Visiting Associate Professor, School of Law, City University of Hong Kong

David Quick was admitted in South Australia in 1970. He then worked as a Barrister and Solicitor for a law firm until 1977, when he moved to the independent Bar and practise as a Barrister.

During that time he has held several legal appointments with the Australian Defence Force including Defence Force Magistrate and Judge Advocate.

He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1984.

In addition to the practise of Law, he has held teaching positions as Lecturer in the Department of Legal Education, HKU (1989/90) and at Adelaide University. Mr Quick is currently a Visiting Associate Professor at the School of Law, City University of Hong Kong.
