The role and importance of the independent expert accountant in court cases, specifically in divorce cases, is to provide an unbiased and fair valuation of the assets in question. The expert should also avoid the temptation to propose fanciful valuations that are not based on accepted principles or are too speculative

  • The various issues and concepts that exist when conducting a valuation of a spouse's holdings in divorce proceedings

  • An overview of the valuation process, and what methods are currently used to value spouses' holdings in divorce proceedings


Julia Walker

Julia Walker, ACA, is a director of Forensic Accounting Ltd in Fleet Street, London, England. Julia has 12 years experience as an expert accountant specializing in ancillary relief including the investigation of spouse's assets and income requirements and the valuation of many businesses.

Sharon Andrea Ser

Sharon Ser was admitted in England in 1983 and in Hong Kong in 1987. A frequent lecturer for the Law Society on Family Law, she is currently a Partner with Hampton, Winter & Glynn Solicitors Hong Kong, specialising in Matrimonial Law Former. She is also a Fellow of International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. She became a Solicitor and then a Partner with a legal firm in Twickenham, West London, England specialising in Matrimonial and Criminal Law. She was a Member of the Citizens Advice Bureau Legal Panel, Member of Law Society Child Care Panel, and a Chairman of the Hong Kong Family Law Association between 1992 and 1998. She also authored the Divorce Section in "Protecting Assets on Divorce" of the Far Eastern Edition of "Credit Suisse Guide to Managing your wealth".
