Course: Financial Know-How for the Family Lawyer: Ancillary Relief in Family Finance Cases
Code: LP03_C18
Duration: 1.5 hours
CPD Credit: 1.5 CPD Points

From a historical perspective, the purpose of valuations in divorce cases was to simply provide a broad assessment of the spouses' wealth. Accuracy was not the primary concern of the Courts.

As there is yet no presumption of equal division of assets among spouses, equality remains as the starting point in divorce cases. There are, however, exceptions to this general view.

In this Course, you shall learn about these instances and the effect on valuations in divorce cases.

This Course consists of one Lesson and three Sections on the following topics:
  • The changing role of the expert accountant

  • Recent cases that illustrate the changes in valuing spouses' assets

  • Interpreting company accounts

  • Liquidity issues
